Tyler Whitcomb serves as the Athletic Director at Kuyper College, bringing more than two decades of experience across collegiate, high school, and professional athletics. His career has included leadership roles at West Michigan Aviation Academy, Howe Military Academy, and Martin High School, where he served as an athletic director and, at Martin, also served as principal and director of operations.
Whitcomb’s background in basketball spans nearly every level of the game. He began coaching at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and went on to coach at the high school, collegiate, and AAU levels. He has also served as a college basketball scout, basketball camp director, video presenter and playbook creator, and as the owner of the Grand Rapids Flight and Holland Blast of the International Basketball League. In 2006, he was named IBL Executive of the Year after helping lead his organizations to the league’s Final Four. His extensive experience in basketball has given him a unique perspective on both the competitive and business sides of athletics.
Since joining Kuyper in 2022, Whitcomb has served the College in a variety of roles, including head coach of the developmental men’s basketball program, assistant varsity basketball coach, athletics liaison and admissions counselor, and KuyperWorks Specialist. Those experiences have allowed him to work closely with students, coaches, faculty, staff, and community partners while developing a broad understanding of Kuyper’s mission and its unique Work College model.
In addition to his responsibilities as Athletic Director, Whitcomb continues to serve as an adjunct professor at Kuyper, teaching courses in Sports Marketing, Leadership in Coaching and Officiating, and Introduction to Business. His approach to athletics is rooted in developing the whole student-athlete and viewing competition as an opportunity for leadership, character development, relationship-building, and preparation for life beyond the playing field.
Whitcomb holds a degree in Sports and Recreation Management from Concordia University Chicago and is a Registered Athletic Administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He brings a passion for athletics, education, and business to his leadership of Kuyper Athletics and is committed to building programs that reflect the College’s mission and positively impact student-athletes and the broader community.
