Many people in the sports world will say "it's hard to beat a team three times." That statement proved to be true today, as the Kuyper College Men's Basketball team dropped an overtime road game to Boyce College today. This was the third matchup between Kuyper and Boyce this year. Kuyper opened their season with a 95-80 win on November 3rd over the Bulldogs, and they secured a 70-66 win over Boyce on January 5th in Harrodsburg, KY. However, the Bulldogs got the best of the Cougars today, as they were able to defeat the Cougars by a score of 81-78.Â
Kuyper ran out to a big lead in the first half, but they were unable to maintain the lead. Kuyper led by 19 with about 6 minutes left in the game, but Boyce went on a 12-0 scoring run in the second half to cut the lead. The game had 17 lead changes, showing it was a very back and forth game.Â
Boyce had the lead for much of the last few minutes of the game, and
Herman Brown was hitting clutch three after clutch three to keep the Cougars in striking distance. He tied the game with a huge three with under 40 seconds to go. The game went to overtime, where the Bulldogs won the overtime period 12-9 in order to defeat the Cougars.Â
Herman Brown finished with a season-high 26 points on 6-12 shooting from the three. Brown also had a team-high 11 rebounds to couple with his 26 points.
Danyel Bibbs neared a double-double, as he finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Jeremiah Jolliffi finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.Â
The Cougars move to 15-6 on the year after their 0-2 weekend in Kentucky. The Cougars travel to Davenport University for an exhibition game on January 30th.Â
