Women's Soccer Names Mike Riemersma Head Coach

Women's Soccer is officially kicking off at Kuyper College in the fall of 2026. Kuyper College has never had a Women's Soccer program, so this will be the inaugural season for the program. Despite the newness of the program, Athletic Director Gary Bailey was able to make a home-run hire for the Women's Soccer program, as Mike Riemersma has been named the Head Coach of the program. Riemersma, who was born in Clearwater, Florida, but lives in Wyoming, Michigan, carries an impressive coaching and playing career with him to Kuyper College.

Most recently, Riemersma coached Women's Soccer for three seasons at Grace Christian University (2020-2022). He was named the Regional Coach of the Year in 2020, where he led the Tigers to the Regional Championship game. Riemersma began his coaching journey in 1992, where he coached JV Girls Soccer at Jenison High School. During that time, he also was an Assistant Coach for the Grace Christian University Men's Soccer team. After being an Assistant Coach for a few seasons, Riemersma was named the Head Coach at Grace Christian University for the Men's Soccer program. He served in that role from 1997-2002, and he was named the Regional Coach of the Year three different times during that span (1998, 2000, 2001). Riemersma then went on to coach Girls Soccer at Byron Center High School for seven seasons. He was the Varsity Head Coach for the Bulldogs during that time.

Riemersma has coached on the club side of the game as well, as he has been the Head Coach for the Michigan Rangers FC Premier Team (U19, U17).

Clearly, Coach Riemersma has experienced a great deal of success as a coach. His playing career was no different. He played college soccer at Grace Christian University from 1989-1991. He was named First Team All-Region in each of his four seasons as a collegiate athlete. Additionally, Riemersma was a 3x All-American as a goal-keeper during his career at Grace Christian.

Riemersma comes to Kuyper as a coach with significant and meaningful experience as both a coach and a player. His time coaching at the NCCAA II level will prove to be valuable as he begins to build the Kuyper College Women's Soccer program. When asked about this opportunity, Riemersma said, "I am extremely excited about accepting this coaching position and taking on the challenge of starting a program from scratch. It is my goal to establish a family culture built on hard work, attention to detail and 'being there' for one another. We will strive to build a program that honors Christ by how we act and how we compete. We serve an excellent God who deserves nothing but excellence from us, not only on the field, in practice and in games, but in the classroom as well. It will be exciting to see where this program goes."

Assistant Athletic Director Adam Kregel is very excited about the future of Women's Soccer at Kuyper and the addition of Mike Riemermsa to the Athletics Department. Kregel said, "Riemersma brings valuable experience to our program, and we could not be more excited about the future of the program under his leadership. His coaching experience in the NCCAA will be very beneficial to getting our Women's Soccer program up and running. Coach Riemersma is an excellent leader and a man of character, and we have zero doubt in his ability to instill Kuyper's values into our Women's Soccer program."

Kuyper's Women's Soccer program will begin their season early fall of 2026.
