The Kuyper College JV - Purple team got their first win of the season on Friday evening, as they defeated Welch College JV by a score of 83-81. This was the first game of JV - Purple's road trip to Nashville, Tennessee for two games. Welch College, who is also a member of the NCCAA II, hosted the JV Invitational.Â
The Cougars jumped out to a 41-33 first half lead. However, Welch outscored the Cougars by 6 in the second half, making the game very close at the end. This win was huge for the Cougars, as it earned them their first win of the season. Additionally, Coach
Jmike Heard earned his first career collegiate win as a head coach.Â
The Cougars got a massive game from
Terrance Murphy, as he finished with 29 points on 10-17 from the field.
Ryan Patterson also logged a huge game for the Cougars, as he had a monster double-double. He finished with 27 points and 18 rebounds for Kuyper. However, those two performances were not the only massive performances put on by Kuyper players in this one.
Antwann Woods set a new JV Basketball record with 24 rebounds in a game. He grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, giving the Cougars multiple second-chance opportunities. Those proved to be critical in the narrow win. Woods scored 11 points as well, so he also had a double-double for Kuyper.Â
Kuyper moves to 1-5 on the year with the win, and they will take on Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg JV on Saturday at Welch College.
