The Kuyper College Women's Basketball program lost in the Midwest Regional Final on Saturday afternoon to Great Lakes Christian College by a score of 73-80. This was the third meeting between the Cougars and the Crusaders, and this win for Great Lakes Christian allows them to secure the season sweep. Kuyper's season has come to an end with the postseason loss.Â
The game was played at Grace Christian University, so both teams traveled very well. The atmosphere matched the stakes of the game, which were very high. With the win, Great Lakes Christian will advance to the NCCAA II National Tournament in Minneapolis, MN, while the Cougars have their season come to a halt. Kuyper jumped out to an early double-digit lead in the first quarter. Kuyper was firing on all cylinders, as they scored 23 points in the first quarter and 43 points in the first half. The Kuyper lead got up to 19 points in the second quarter, but Great Lakes Christian went on a run to cut the lead to 12 going into the halftime break. Foul trouble and turnovers plagued Kuyper in the second half.Â

Shonyah Hawkins, who finished with 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Addisyn Headworth added a career-high 12 points on 5-7 shooting from the field.
Couper Agema added 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Maria Sobany neared a double-double with 9 points and 10 assists, which is a new school-record.Â
Kuyper finishes the year with a 16-10 record. Their 16 wins is a new school record for wins in a season. Despite the heart-breaking loss in the Regional Final, Kuyper had a tremendous amount of success for their first season back to athletics. Stay tuned for a season recap article.
