Late August is here, which means Kuyper Volleyball is back in full swing. The Cougars, in year two of the return of Kuyper College Athletics, opened their 2024 season at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI. The Cougars started out the season with a tri-match involving Kuyper College, Concordia University, and Judson University. The Cougars dropped match #1 of the tri, as they lost 0-3 to Judson University. 

The Cougars struggled to gain momentum in the first two sets of the match, but they finished the match strong with a 19 point third set. The Cougars were led by sophomore Addisyn Headworth, who had 6 kills against Judson. New faces, Briana Howard and Trina Nelson each added 2 kills in the season-opening loss. Angelita Ledesma led the Cougars in assists and digs, as she finished with 4 assists and 8 digs. Lillie Golm added 7 digs to the Cougars' effort. Ariel Talsma started her Kuyper career off with a block as well.

In the second match, the Cougars fell to Concordia by a final score of 0-3. Similar to their first match, Kuyper struggled to gain momentum throughout the match. Addisyn Headworth, Angelita Ledesma, and Aniya Fisher eached had 2 kills for Kuyper. Angelita Ledesma led the Cougars with 6 assists, and newcomer Lillie Golm led the Cougars with 7 digs. Briana Howard and Trina Nelson added 5 and 3 digs, respectively. 

Despite the losses, it was great to get back to competing for the Cougars. Kuyper got nice efforts from multiple newcomers to the program, while also getting strong showings from their returners. The Cougars will return to action on Friday, August 23rd, where they will travel to Grace Christian University for a rivalry match up. The match will begin at 6:30pm.
