The Kuyper College Volleyball team defeated Great Lakes Christian College on Tuesday night by a score of 3-2. The Cougars lost to the Crusaders in five sets earlier this season, so it was a rewarding win to see a different outcome in this five-set match. The match was competitive throughout, with each team going on impressive runs.Â
Kuyper took the first set 25-19, gaining early control of the match. However, the Crusaders responded with a gritty second set win, by a score of 25-21. In the third set, Kuyper won decisively, 25-12. Kuyper had a chance to win the fourth set and take home the victory, but the Crusaders responded with a 25-23 win. This led to a match-deciding fifth set, where the Cougars led throughout. Kuyper ended up winning the fifth set 15-8.Â
Kuyper got multiple massive performances to win the NCCAA II Midwest Regional match-up.
Rachel Romero logged 27 kills, breaking a school record for total kills in a match.
Aliyah Garner added 18 kills. Additionally,
Brooke Moore logged 28 digs, breaking the school record for digs in a match.
Trina Nelson was setting up Kuyper's hitters all evening, finishing the day with an impressive 29 assists.Â
