The Kuyper College Men's Basketball program hosted Judson University on Friday evening. The Eagles defeated the Cougars 75-67.Â
Kuyper entered the game coming off of a big rivalry win over Grace Christian University. Kuyper kept the positive momentum from that win rolling to start Friday's game, as they led 16-6 early over Judson. However, Judson responded well, and the game was back and forth the rest of the way. Kuyper went into the halftime break up 35-34.Â
In the second half, Judson attacked early, giving the Eagles the lead. Kuyper continued to keep the game within reach, but they were unable to close out the game. In a close game, free throw shooting proved to be a difference. Judson made 17/25 free throws (68%), but Kuyper struggled from the line, shooting just 10/19 (52.6%). Empty offensive trips due to missed free throws plagued the Cougars in the close game.Â
Latrell Jennings led the way for the Cougars, as the junior scored a career-high 23 points on an efficient 9/13 shooting from the field. Jennings made a career-high 5 threes on 8 attempts.
Austin Stone had a great outing for the Cougars as well, as he finished the night with 17 points and 7 rebounds. 17 points was a career-high for the junior from Mason, Michigan as well.
Elijah Searcy added 9 points for the Cougars.
Nick Moore led the Cougars with 7 assists.
Jacob May and
Austin Stone each grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds.
With the loss, the Cougars drop to 3-4 on the year. On Tuesday, the Cougars travel across town to take on NCAA II Davenport University in an exhibition game.
