The Kuyper College Women's Basketball team defeated rival Grace Christian University on Friday afternoon by a score of 69-44. With the win, Kuyper has advanced to their second straight Midwest Regional Championship game. They will face a familiar opponent in Great Lakes Christian College, who defeated the Cougars last season in the Midwest Regional Championship.Â
Kuyper and Grace Christian played a close first quarter, but in the second quarter, Kuyper began to build a more comfortable lead. In the second half, Kuyper was able to maintain their lead and secure the tournament win. The Cougars' defense was effective in this one, as they limited the Tigers to just 28.3% from the field, and they were able to force 19 turnovers. The Cougars shot 42.6% from the field, while finishing the game with 21 total assists.Â
Sophomore
Aniya Fisher led the Cougars with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Couper Agema logged a nice double-double, as Agema finished the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 4-6 from three.
Jakya Rimpson neared a double-double, as she finished the game with 11 points and 9 rebounds. The Cougars got a balanced effort, as 8 of the 9 Cougars got in the scoring column.
Maria Sobany led the Cougars with a team-high 9 assists.Â
Kuyper improves to 11-12 on the year and 1-0 in the postseason. The Cougars will take on the Crusaders of Great Lakes Christian College on Saturday at 12:00pm for a NCCAA II National Tournament berth. The Cougars lost a close one on the road to the Crusaders earlier this season in their lone match up of the year.
