The Kuyper College Men's Basketball team defeated rival, Grace Christian University, by a score of 65-60 in the Midwest Regional Tournament Semifinals on Friday evening. This win secures a spot in the Regional Championship game for the Cougars.Â
With the win, Kuyper improves to 3-0 on the year over Grace Christian. They won each of the regular season match-ups, including the Cross Cup Trophy Game. In this one, Kuyper was the #3 seed in the Regional Tournament, while the Tigers were the #2 seed.Â
Grace Christian jumped out to an early lead, but Kuyper responded immediately with a run of their own. The remainder of the first half was in Kuyper's control, but Grace kept the game within reach at all times. At the halftime break, Kuyper led 38-29. In the second half, Grace Christian stormed back, and they even took a late lead. However, Kuyper made the necessary plays down the stretch in order to win the game. Nic Yorke each made a pair of free throws to secure the win for Kuyper.Â
Nic Yorke led the way with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. He shot a perfect 9-9 from the line.
Nick Moore added 14 points for Kuyper.Â
Kuyper improves to 13-15 on the year with the win and will take on Great Lakes Christian College on Saturday afternoon, with a Regional Championship on the line. The Cougars have an opportunity to win the school's first-ever Regional Championship, in any sport.
