Game Recap: Men's JV Basketball - Purple |

Developmental Purple Opens Season With Home Win JV

Last night was an eventful night on the campus of Kuyper College, as the Men's Developmental - Purple team had the first basketball home game on campus since 2015. The Cougars beat the Pilots of Bethel University (Ind.) by a score of 90-85.

This win marks the first win in Developmental/JV Basketball history at Kuyper College, as Kuyper College did not have a JV Basketball program when they previously had athletics. Coach Tyler Whitcomb earned his first collegiate basketball win as well.

The game was back and forth for much of the first half. However, the Cougars were able to go on a nice run and extend the lead to 17 in the second half. That being said, the Pilots continued to claw back into the game, as the game was a one-possession game with just 30 seconds left in the game. The Cougars were able to close the game out with a couple of key defensive stops and made free throws.

Kuyper was led in scoring by Terrance Murphy, who had 21 points on the night. Terrance added 5 rebounds and 5 assists to his effort. Rylee Carter neared a double-double on the night, as he had an impressive 20 points and 9 rebounds. Javrius Gordon was a force for the Cougars all night, as he had a very impressive 15 points and 18 rebounds for the game. Ashtyn Simerson and Grady Schippers hit some big, timely threes to steer the Cougars to victory.

Coach Tyler Whitcomb was very pleased with the team's ball movement on the night. When asked about the team's offense, Coach Whitcomb said "In the first half, we moved the ball like those old San Antonio Spurs teams."

The season-opening win moves the Cougars to 1-0 on the season. The Developmental-Purple team will return to action on Monday, November 6th, where they will travel down the road to Cornerstone University.
