The Kuyper College Women's Basketball program has officially returned. The last season that Kuyper College had athletics, including Women's Basketball, was 2014-2015.Â
The Cougars are led this season by Head Coach Mike Janikowski and Assistant Coach Shonett Davis. The Cougars opened their season with two tough challenges on the road. On Thursday, Kuyper lost at Brescia University (NAIA) by a score of 20-86. On Friday, the Cougars lost to NCCAA opponent, Simmons College by a score of 60-89.Â
On Friday, freshman
Aniya Fisher led the Cougars in scoring with 13 points.
Couper Agema added 11 points to the Cougars' effort. Fisher and Agema added 8 rebounds and 9 rebounds on Friday as well. Freshman
Isabelle Lockwood was able to get hot from the three-point line, as she made 3-5 from three point land against Simmons College.Â
Despite the losses on the weekend, Coach Mike Janikowski was pleased with the effort that Kuyper showed. "We have work to do, but I love the way that this group battles together. We fight for one another each day, and we are getting better and better. Obviously not the result that we wanted tonight, but the energy was there," said Coach Janikowski. Coach added, "We will go fix some things this week, as we have to be ready for a really good IU Kokomo team on Wednesday."Â
The two losses on the road trip move the Cougars to 0-2 on the season (0-1 in the NCCAA). Kuyper returns to action with their home opener on Wednesday, November 1st vs. Indiana University Kokomo. The game will tip off at 7:00pm. Â
