Today was another exciting day for Kuyper College, Kuyper College Athletics, and Kuyper College Volleyball, as the Volleyball team won their first match of the season!Â
The Cougars defeated Moody Bible Institute in a highly-competitive five-set match on Saturday. This win represents Kuyper College's first athletic victory since the return of athletics to the institution. This win also represents the first victory for Coach Tori Johnston's collegiate coaching tenure.Â
Kuyper lost a hard-fought match to Moody Bible on Friday night, but the Cougars were able to protect home court on Saturday. After falling behind 8-2 in the fifth set, things were not looking great for the Cougars. However, they were able to storm back and win the fifth set by a score of 15-13. Addisyn Headworth led the Cougars with an imposing 11 kills in the match. Jada Munro and Kelsey Quiggin added 7 and 5 kills to the Cougars' win as well. Once again, Angelita Ledesma led the Cougars with 17 assists. Bailey Lewis and Jada Munro led the Cougars with 11 digs each.Â
Later in the afternoon, Kuyper took on the Eagles from Dayspring Bible College in an exhibition match. Kuyper was able to defeat the Eagles in 4 sets. Jada Munro had 13 kills, a season-high for one match, while Angelita Ledesma had 23 assists, also a season-high.Â
Coach Tori Johnston was pleased with the team's effort today. "After a tough few games and lots of effort, I'm excited to have a few wins under our belt and the first for Kuyper Volleyball! The ladies fought hard all day and came out strong each game, and it was definitely rewarded on the scoreboard" Johnston said.Â
The Cougars return to action on September 1st, where they will travel to Chicago, IL to play Moody Bible Institute again. The match will take place at 7:00pm ET.Â
