Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Kuyper Defeats Grace Christian, Breaks School Record

The Kuyper College Men's Basketball team defeated the #5 Tigers from Grace Christian University on Saturday night by a score of 83-70. This game carried a lot of weight to it, and it had some special dynamics to it. The crowd reflected the magnitude of the game, as Boonstra Gymnasium was at full capacity. The energy in the gym was off the charts all evening.

To begin, Kuyper Head Coach Gary Bailey coached at Grace Christian University for 17 seasons. He won 7 National Championships and 13 Regional Championships during his Hall of Fame tenure at Grace Christian. Coach Bailey had won more than 350 games at the helm for the Tigers, but he had never coached against the Grace Christian. That all changed on Saturday night, when the Cougars and Tigers met up for a heavyweight matchup between two Top 10 teams. The Cougars earned a win in a back and forth game. With the win, Kuyper broke a new school record for the Men's Basketball program for longest win streak in a season. The Cougars are currently on a 7 game winning streak, breaking the previous record of 6 wins in a row, set by the Kuyper team from 2013-2014.

As previously stated, this game featured two top 10 teams in the NCCAA. Grace Christian came into the game ranked #5 in the country, while the Cougars are currently ranked #10. Both teams are a part of the NCCAA II Midwest Region.

Kuyper got many impressive performances in order to secure the win. To begin, junior Danyel Bibbs nearly finished with a triple-double for the Cougars. Bibbs did everything on Saturday night, as he finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists, and 2 steals. Bibbs was clutch for the Cougars down the stretch, as he finished multiple tough shots at the rim late in the game to help close it out for Kuyper. Jeremiah Jolliffi finished with 14 points, including a couple thunderous dunks, one of which was the dagger. Elisha Searcy added 12 points and 4 assists, including a huge three late in the game to extend the lead to 7 with a few minutes left in the game. Herman Brown finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks to his effort.

Early in the game, Grace Christian went on a huge run, and things were not looking great to start for the Cougars. However, Damion Cochran came off the bench and scored 18 points for the Cougars in the first half, helping keep the Cougars in the picture. Cochran finished an efficient 7-8 from the field and 3-4 from three. He finished with 2- points on the evening. Lastly, Daniel Milton hit a couple clutch free throws down the stretch to help the Cougars finish off the game.

The Cougars improve to 15-4 on the season and 12-2 in the NCCAA II.
