Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Defeats #9 Boyce

The Kuyper College Men's Basketball team rematched against Boyce College today in Harrodsburg, Kentucky as game two of their three game stint in the Mideast vs. Midwest Classic. The Cougars defeated the Bulldogs from Boyce College to open the season earlier this year, when they won 95-80 over Boyce on November 3rd. Boyce is currently ranked #9 in the NCCAA II.

Kuyper defeated the Bulldogs tonight by a score of 70-66. The game was a close game for much of the evening, and the Cougars relied on some key plays down the stretch again to secure the victory. With under 2 minutes to go, Damion Cochran got a huge basket in the post to put the Cougars up 2. Boyce was able to tie the game on the other end, but Danyel Bibbs was able to regain the lead for the Cougars with a strong finish at the rim with about 1 minute to go. However, Boyce did not waver, as the Bulldogs hit a huge three to take the lead with less than a minute remaining. With under 30 seconds left in the game, Herman Brown drove and found Daniel Milton for a clutch and one finish at the rim. After regaining the lead, Milton stole the Bulldogs' inbound pass. Milton and Brown hit clutch free throws down the stretch to close the game out for the Cougars.

Elisha Searcy led the Cougars on the evening with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 0 turnovers. Herman Brown added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Denyel Bibbs finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds, and Damion Cochran added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Cougars got great bench support from Daniel Milton and Latrell Jennings.

Coach Gary Bailey was pleased with how his team played down the stretch of this one. "These close games really help this team to mature and learn how to win and close out game," said Bailey. Bailey added, "Boyce is a really good team with a great coach. Coach McCarthy has his team playing really well as always. Just so proud of the guys and the way they continue to battle and mature."

Kuyper moves to 10-4 on the season and 8-2 in the NCCAA II. They have one more game remaining this weekend, where they will take on Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg at 3:00pm ET. The Cougars and the Pioneers played back on November 10th, where the Pioneers narrowly defeated the Cougars by a score of 74-70. This game is the final game of the Mideast vs. Midwest Classic hosted by Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg.
