Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats Great Lakes on the Road

The Kuyper College Men's Soccer program defeated Great Lakes Christian College on Friday afternoon by a score of 2-0. This was the first matchup of the year between the two NCCAA II Midwest Regional teams.

Kuyper took the lead late in the first half behind a goal from Hugo Freitas dos Santos in the 38th minute. This was Freitas dos Santos' first goal of his Kuyper career. The goal was assisted by Johnson Bondo. Kuyper rode that momentum from that goal into the second half. The Cougars got nice defense from their back-line, leading to a shutout. Ian Ramirez logged 6 saves on the day, with 3 saves coming in each half. Eduardo Terazzas scored his first career goal to help extend the Kuyper lead and provide a little safety to that lead. That goal came in the 78th minute. Kuyper went on to close the game 2-0, giving Ian Ramirez his second career shutout.

This was a big win for the Cougars, as it was a road match with a fellow NCCAA II Midwest Regional member. The Cougars have now played each Midwest Regional opponent in Maranatha Baptist University (1-0 W), Grace Christian University (1-1 T), Emmaus Bible College (3-0 L), and Great Lakes Christian College (2-0 W). The Cougars will see these opponents again in the Midwest Regional Tournament in early November at Grace Christian University.

Coach Mike Colago was pleased with what he saw from his group today. Colago said, "Very proud of the guys today! They stuck to the plan and made the game plan work really well. We got lots of great play everywhere on the pitch, and our bench presence was very good! Big time TEAM win for us!"

Kuyper moves to 2-7-1 on the year with the win. They will head to Grand Rapids Community College on Tuesday, October 22nd for a 2:00pm match.
