The Kuyper College Developmental - Black team lost a heart breaker to Grace Christian University's JV team in their quarterfinal match up of the 2024 Cougar Classic JV Tournament. The Cougars lost to the Tigers by a final score of 42-43. The tournament is a running-clock format, so the games are a bit more low-scoring. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, but the Tigers responded in the first half. Grace Christian went into the halftime break up 5. Grace Christian jumped out to a bigger lead in the second half, but Kuyper continued to fight. The Cougars were down 8 with just a few minutes to go, but they stringed a few defensive stops together, and a layup from
Zamire Jackson tied the game with about 10 seconds remaining. In the final possession, Grace Christian beat Kuyper's pressure and got fouled on a putback attempt. The Tigers made 1 of 2 free throws to end the game.Â
Kuyper was led by
Gregory Thomas III, who had 12 points and 3 rebounds on the day.
Dior Partee added 9 points.
Kevin Tobe led the Cougars with 7 points.
Zamire Jackson was huge down the stretch, as he converted an and-one to cut the lead to 2 with a minute to go, and then he tied the game with 10 seconds remaining.Â
The Cougars move to 4-16 on the year. The Cougars will play Kuyper Gold on Saturday at 10:00am in a consolation game to close out their season.Â
