Box Score Saturday afternoon was another historic day in the world of Kuyper College Athletics, as Kuyper's Men's Soccer program had their first match since the program was revamped after Kuyper shut down athletics back in 2015. The Men's Soccer program, led by Head Coach
Mike Colago, traveled to Earlham College in Earlham, IN on Saturday to open their season. The Cougars dropped the match by a narrow margin, as the final score was 1-0.
Earlham scored the match's only goal in the 30th minute. Kuyper played well defensively on the match, but were unable to tie the match with a goal of their own. The Cougars split time with their goalkeepers in the net, as
Ian Klenk played 45 minutes, while
Ian Ramirez also logged 45 minutes. Each goalkeeper finished the afternoon with 2 saves. Offensively, Kuyper finished the match with 13 shots, forcing six saves out of Earlham's goalkeeper.
About the match, Head Coach
Mike Colago said, "It was a game of two halves. In the first half, we were trying to calm out the nerves of a first match even though the men were ready. In the second match, we got a ball off the post from Hugo Fretias dos Santos, as well as many other opportunities, that could have led the match to go our way. Nevertheless, it was a great first game, and it gave us lots to build off of."
Kuyper is now 0-1 on the year, but they will return to action on Tuesday, September 10th, where they will take the road to take on Concordia University Chicago. The match is set to begin at 4:00pm ET.
