The Kuyper College Women's Basketball team defeated Welch College on Friday evening in narrow fashion, as the Cougars defeated the Lady Flames 49-47.Â
Kuyper and Welch played a back-and-forth game all evening, but Kuyper got a couple huge plays down the stretch to help them defend home court and earn the close win. The Cougars trailed 23-21 at the half, but they won the third quarter 11-7, giving them a 32-30 lead going into the final ten minutes. In the fourth, the Cougars were able to hold on and get the win.Â
Maria Sobany hit a huge three with less than a minute to go to put the Cougars up 2, after losing the lead late.
Brynne Johnson added another bucket down the stretch to extend the Cougars lead. Lastly, Kuyper got a stop with no time remaining to win the game.
Brynne Johnson led Kuyper with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Couper Agema added 11 points and 3 made threes.
Jakya Rimpson finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds.Â
Kuyper moves to 5-9 on the season with the home win, and they will host Mount Mary University on Wednesday at 6:00pm.
