The Kuyper College Women's Basketball team dropped a close game to Defiance College on Wednesday evening. The Cougars traveled to Defiance, OH for the match-up with Defiance College, who is part of the NAIA. The final score of the game was 63-60.Â
Defiance ran out to a quick lead to open the game, but Kuyper responded with a run of their own. Despite opening the first quarter with an 8-0 deficit, Kuyper led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. The game was back and forth all game with multiple lead changes. Kuyper was up 3 going into the fourth quarter, but Defiance executed better down the stretch to pick up the win.Â
The turnover deficit was a difference maker in the close loss for the Cougars. Kuyper had 23 turnovers, to Defiance's 14. Those extra possessions proved to be costly in a close game for Kuyper. Defensively, the Cougars played well, as they limited Defiance to 35.1% from the field and 24% from three.Â
Kuyper was led by junior
Brynne Johnson, who finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds on the day. This was a season-high in scoring for Johnson, as well as her first double-double of the year.
Jakya Rimpson neared a double-double for Kuyper, as she logged 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Abigail Rivera-Sosa added 7 points to the Cougars' effort, to go along with her 6 rebounds.Â
Kuyper moves to 4-9 on the season. They host NCCAA II Welch College on Friday evening at Boonstra Gymnasium. The game will tip off at 5:30pm.Â
