The Kuyper College Men's Basketball program is out in Ankeny, Iowa, as they are competing in the Faith Classic, a three-game invitational hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College. The Cougars opened the invitiational with a comeback win over Central Christian College of the Bible. The final score was 80-72.
The Cougars and the Saints played a close game, with multiple lead changes in the first half. Central Christian led by 5 at the halftime break. In the second half, the Saints extended their lead to double digits. They reached their biggest lead of the game, 15, with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the game. That is when the Cougars came storming back.Â

Braden VanderMeer sparked the comeback. Kuyper was able to close out the game on a big run, leading to the 8 point win. On the day, Kuyper won the turnover battle, as they turned the ball over 14 times, while forcing 19 turnovers from Central Christian. Additionally, three point shooting was a difference in the close game, as the Cougars made 10 threes on 37%, while Kuyper limited Central Christian to just 7 made threes on 28%.Â
Austin Stone led the way for the Cougars with a career game, as he logged his first 20-10 game of his career. Stone finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Nic Yorke poured in 16 points for Kuyper, including 4 made threes (career-high).
Jashaun Boggerty was the only other Cougar to score double-figures, as he scored 10 points on the night.
Elijah Searcy and
Jacob May each added 9 points to the Cougars' effort.Â
The win was a much-needed win for the Cougars, as it was a NCCAA II match-up, and the Cougars were coming off of a close home loss to Judson University. The Cougars have two more games left in the Faith Classic. Kuyper plays Manhattan Christian College at 1:15pm on Friday afternoon in another big NCCAA II match-up. Manhattan Christian made the NCCAA II Final Four last season. On Saturday, the Cougars have a third NCCAA II match-up of the trip, as they will take on the host school, Faith Baptist Bible College.Â
