The Kuyper College Men's Basketball program traveled south on Monday evening to take on Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Cougars lost to the Crimson Wave in narrow fashion, 72-71. This was the second match-up between the Cougars and Crimson Wave in the past two seasons, as Calumet defeated Kuyper last year in convincing fashion. This year's game was much closer, as it came down to the wire, but the result was the same, as the Crimson Wave left with the win.Â
The game was close for much of the first half, with Crimson Wave leading by a few points for much of the half. Towards the back end of the first half, Calumet pulled away a bit, and went into the halftime break up 8. In the second half, the lead stayed around 6-10 points. Calumet reached its largest lead of 12 points with 16:48 left in the game. Kuyper made a late push, but were unable to steal the win on the road.Â
Neither team shot the ball great from the perimeter in this one, as Kuyper shot 20% from three, and Calumet shot 27.3% from three. Both teams scored efficiently on their two-point attempts. In the close loss, free throw shooting proved to be a big difference maker. Kuyper lost by one point, but they left 8 points at the free throw line, as they shot a poor 3/11 from the line.Â
The Cougars were led by junior forward,
Austin Stone. Stone had another big double-double, as he finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Nick Moore proved to be steady for the Cougars once again, adding 14 points and 7 assists to the Cougars' effort.
Nic Yorke and
Jacob May each scored 11 points for the Cougars as well.Â
Kuyper's record falls to 4-7 on the season. The Cougars will look to get back on track on Wednesday evening, where they will host Andrews University at 8:00pm ET.Â
