The Kuyper College Women's Basketball team lost to Miami University Hamilton by a score of 64-52. This game marks the end of the regular season for the Cougars, and they will now turn their sights to the NCCAA II Midwest Regional Tournament this week. This was the second match up of the season between the Cougars and the Harriers, with the Harriers winning each match up. However, Kuyper was much more competitive and effective in this match up, which was a good sign heading into postseason play.Â
Before the game, Kuyper was able to honor their 5 seniors for Senior Night. The 5 seniors,
Zyona Talley,
Maria Sobany,
Couper Agema,
Laia Vidaller, and
Jakya Rimpson, have all been special parts of helping build the Kuyper program. Each senior received a commemorative basketball of their Kuyper career, and they got recognized with friends and family.Â
The game was neck and neck for much of the first half. Kuyper trailed 17-15 at the end of the first. Going into half, they were down 33-25. The game remained in reach in the second half, but Kuyper was unable to regain the lead late.Â
Kylah Buggs led the Cougars with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Buggs was very effective in her limited minutes.
Jakya Rimpson and
Aniya Fisher each scored 8 points. Fisher grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds as well.
The Cougars finish the regular season with a 10-12 record. The Midwest Regional Tournament begins this weekend. The Cougars lost last season in the Regional final, and they will look to get back to that game this Saturday, but this time with a different outcome. A trip to Minneapolis, MN for the National Tournament is on the line.Â
