The Kuyper College JV Basketball program has added a new signee to their 2025 recruiting class, as the school year quickly approaches. The Cougars signed Rase Sherwood Jr., a 6'3 guard from Springfield, Illinois. Sherwood Jr. attended Hartsburg-Emden Jr./Sr. High School. After his time at Hartsburg-Emden High School, Rase went to Blackburn College, an NCAA D3 school in Illinois, where he played two seasons.
Rase brings significant collegiate basketball experience to Kuyper's program. Prior to his time at Blackburn, Sherwood Jr. logged a prolific senior season at Hartsburg-Emden HS. Rase made 69 threes in his senior season, at a 38% clip. His 69 made threes placed him 43rd in the entire state of Illinois for made threes. His high-level shooting and play making propelled him to a Second Team All-Conference honor for the Tomahawk Conference. Sherwood Jr. played three seasons of Varsity basketball in HS.
Rase played his AAU basketball with RoyaltyHoops.
In addition to being succesful on the court, Rase has achieved great success in the classroom. He graduated HS with an impressive 3.91 GPA. He earned Academic All-Conference honors for the Tomahawk Conference as a senior. In addition to taking care of business in the classroom, Sherwood Jr. has been a member of extracurricular clubs at Hartsburg-Emden, such as National Honors Society and Beta Club. At Blackburn College, Rase earned himself a spot on the Dean's List in 2023 as well.
When asked about what makes him most excited about the opportunity of joining the Kuyper JV Basketball program, Sherwood Jr. said, "I am really excited to join a winning and Godly culture."
