The Kuyper College Volleyball program hosted a quad match on Saturday afternoon with the following teams: Kuyper College, Grace Christian University, Alice Lloyd College, and Oakland City University.Â
The Cougars took on the Eagles of Alice Lloyd to open the quad. Kuyper lost to Alice Lloyd in four sets on Friday evening, making this their second matchup in two days. The Cougars lost to Alice Lloyd again on Saturday, also in four sets. Similar to Friday, Kuyper took the first set, and Alice Lloyd responded with three straight sets of their own. Over the course of the four sets, Kuyper lost by a combined score of 64-50.Â
Aliyah Garner and
Catherine Cone had historic outings for the Cougars.
Aliyah Garner set a new school record with 18 kills. Garner now holds Kuyper's record for kills in a match, and she is just a freshman.
Catherine Cone was setting Garner up with great sets all morning. Cone finished the day with 26 assists, which is tied for the school record.
Rachel Romero had a great outing for the Cougars as well, finishing with 9 kills and 11 digs.
Brooke Moore led Kuyper with 23 digs in the match.
In the following two matches, Alice Lloyd defeated Grace Christian University, and then Oakland City University defeated Grace Christian. Each of those matches went four sets.
The Cougars then took on Oakland City in the final match of the quad. The Cougars lost in three sets to the Mighty Oaks. Kuyper was led by
Rachel Romero and
Aliyah Garner, who each logged 11 kills.
Ariel Talsma finished the day with an impressive 5 blocks.
Brooke Moore led with 20 digs, while
Rachel Romero added 13 digs and
Aliyah Garner added 12 digs to the Cougars' effort.Â
Kuyper drops to 0-4 on the season. The Cougars will host Montcalm Community College on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm.Â
