The Kuyper College Men's Basketball defeated Moody Bible Institute on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars defeated the Archers in convincing fashion, 112-49.Â
Prior to the game, the program honored their two seniors,
Jacob May and
Nick Moore, in a Senior Day ceremony. Each of the two seniors have been tremendous members of the Kuyper basketball program, both on and off the court. As players, they have each made their mark at Kuyper.Â
Jacob May transferred to Kuyper from Muskegon Community College, with two seasons of eligibility remaining. In his two seasons at Kuyper, Jacob has played in 50 games and cracked the top 25 of Kuyper's all-time scoring list, as well as the top 15 of Kuyper's all-time rebounding list.
Nick Moore transferred to Kuyper from Cleary University, with just one season of eligibility remaining. This season, Nick has averaged 10ppg and 5.5 rpg, both of which are good for second on the team.Â
Once the game began, Kuyper came out of the gates firing. Multiple records and career-highs were reached in this game for the Cougars. They shot the ball at an extremely high level, while also being able to string together consecutive defensive stops. The Cougars made 17 threes in this game, which is good for a new Kuyper record. The previous record was 14 made threes, so Kuyper shattered the record in this one. Eight of those made threes came from freshman
Arlind Avdo, which was also good for a new Kuyper record. See a compilation of all of Avdo's threes
here. Additionally, junior
Braden VanderMeer made a career-high five threes, to finish with a career-high 17 points.Â
Kuyper's offense was firing on all cylinders, as they shot 57.3% from the field and 47.2% from three. Kuyper's defense was stout, as they limited Moody Bible to just 29.7% from the field and 31.6% from three. Kuyper dominated the rebounding battle 56-27.Â
In addition to Avdo and VanderMeer's big outings, junior
Latrell Jennings shot a perfect 6-6 from the field, to finish with 13 points.
Nic Yorke scored 11 points, to go along with his 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Nick Moore logged a double-double on Senior Day, as he finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Kuyper improved to 10-12 on the year with the win and 8-4 in the NCCAA II.Â
