The Kuyper College Basketball program are now in postseason mode. They need to win three straight Regional Tournament games in Dubuque, Iowa, in order to advance to the NCCAA II National Tournament and keep their season alive. The Cougars got the first of those three necessary wins, as they defeated Moody Bible 74-65 on Thursday afternoon.Â
Kuyper and Moody Bible played twice during the regular season. The Cougars won both match-ups, but the second one was much closer than the first. This game was even closer than their most recent match-up, as Moody Bible led with less than 8 minutes remaining in the game.Â
Kuyper had a nice lead early, and they led 42-30 at the end of the first half. Moody responded with a big run to open the second half, but Kuyper was able to hold on and win the game. The rebounding battle was a big differentiator in this game, as Kuyper out-rebounded Moody 41-31. Kuyper shot the ball better from three than Moody as well, which proved to be a difference maker. Kuyper shot 34.5% from three, while Moody shot 23.8%.Â
Antwann Woods led the way for Kuyper with a career game, as he scored a career-high 15 points, while grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.
Jashaun Boggerty added 13 points.
Nick Moore,
Arlind Avdo, and
Nic Yorke all scored in double-figures as well.Â
Kuyper improves to 12-15 on the year with the win, and they earned their spot in the Midwest Regional Tournament Semifinals, where they will take on Grace Christian University on Friday at 8:00pm ET.Â
