The Kuyper College Women's Basketball program has added a new team member to the program in Brynne Johnson, as Johnson signed on with the Cougars on Tuesday afternoon. Johnson is a 5'9 forward from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, by way of Galesburg Augusta High School in Galesburg, MI. Johnson played each of the last two seasons at KVCC, so she is coming to Kuyper as a junior. Brynne is the daughter of Heather Johnson.
Johnson had a very impressive career at KVCC, as she played in a total of 51 games in her two-year career. In her freshman season, Johnson averaged 5.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She appeared in 27 games, while also getting 6 starts. She had an even better season as a sophomore, as Brynne averaged 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds this past winter. She shot an efficient 48 percent from the field. This past season, Brynne appeared in 24 points, while earning 11 starts. Moreover, Johnson was named the NJCAA II Women's Basketball Player of the Week when she finished with 32 points (10-12 FGs), 7 rebounds, and 2 assists against Kankakee Community College back in November. She also earned the MCCAA Western Player of the Week honors during her career at KVCC.
During Johnson's time at Galesburg Augusta HS, Brynne earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. As a senior, she averaged a double-double with a stat line of 12 points and 10 rebounds per game.
As a student, Brynne intends to study psychology here at Kuyper.
When asked about what makes Brynne excited about signing on and coming to Kuyper, Johnson said, "Some of the things that excite me about coming to Kuyper's Women's Basketball program is the community there. It seems to genuine and family-knit. The class sizes are slightly smaller than average and gives more direct support in class, between the students and the teachers. On top of all of that, the campus is beautiful and serene. I see so much growth capability on the court and in my day to day life here at Kuyper and am excited to get started!"
Coach Shonett Davis is excited to add Johnson to her program. Davis said, "We are super excited for Brynne to join our team. Brynne is the epitome of a scrappy basketball player. What sets Brynne apart is her unwavering tenacity and relentless hustle."
Congraulations to Brynne on signing on to become the newest Kuyper Cougar! Brynne and the Cougars will take the court this fall.
