Box Score The Kuyper College Women's Basketball team lost game 1 of the Faith Classic on Friday evening to Faith Baptist Bible College. Faith Baptist hosts the annual Faith Classic, which features four NCCAA Men's teams and four NCCAA Women's teams. Each team plays two games, one on Friday and one on Saturday.
The Cougars lost to the host Eagles by a score of 58-52. Faith Baptist jumped out to a 19-10 first quarter lead in this one. However, Kuyper responded with a big second quarter, giving them a 28-27 lead at the halftime break. However, Faith Baptist made the necessary plays down the stretch to secure the lead and leave with the win.
Free throws were the biggest discrepancy in this one. Kuyper struggled from the line, as they shot just 3-11 (27.3%). In contrast, Faith Baptist made 20 free throws at a 76.9% clip. Much of the shooting numbers, as well as turnover numbers, were similar, but the free throw discrepancy was too much for Kuyper to overcome.
Brynne Johnson led the Cougars with a career-high at Kuyper of 17 points.
Couper Agema added 11 points for Kuyper.
Kuyper moves to 2-5 on the year and 1-1 in the NCCAA II with the loss. They will play their second game of the Faith Classic on Saturday at 10:30am ET.
