The Kuyper College Men's Developmental Basketball program has added another signee in James Weaver. James is a great get for the Cougars program, as he is a high-level player, but also a high-level person. James is from Detroit, MI. Weaver will be coming to Kuyper from River Rouge High School, which is traditionally one of the best basketball programs in the state for boy's basketball. James is the son of Gus Weaver and DeShawndra Morgan.
During his career at River Rouge, James Weaver was a four-year varsity starter, which is extremely impressive at a program like River Rouge. This past season, he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. He helped lead River Rouge to a 16-11 record. James has played for a few AAU programs during his career, including Code 313 Basketball, Downriver Bad Boyz, and the Purple and White Colorway.
As a student, James intends to study business at Kuyper College. He earned PBI's Achievement Award as well during his academic career.
James was a highly-rated recruit in the state. According to Prep Hoops, James was ranked as the 28th best prospect in the state of Michigan. When he committed to Kuyper, Scott Hankamp of Prep Hoops wrote on X/Twitter: "@TWhitcomb (Head Coach
Tyler Whitcomb) just did the equivalent of robbing a bank without a ski mask. GREAT get for that program, @islandwork_3 (James Weaver) is an elite player and even better young man."
Coach Whitcomb seconds Hankamp's remarks about adding James to his program, as Coach Whitcomb said, "We just landed one of the quickest guards in the state who constantly puts pressure on the rim. He is also a tremendous kid off the court, and I can't wait to start working with him."
Congratulations to James Weaver on signing on to become a Kuyper Cougar!
